Strengthening Neighborhoods FAQ

Are there things that Strengthening Neighborhoods Grants cannot fund?

Yes, Strengthening Neighborhoods does not fund:

  • T-Shirts, computers, or equipment not absolutely necessary for the project’s success
  • Projects focused solely on healthy eating/active living or gardens
  • Projects with only one or two community leaders
  • Projects where any of the three (or more) community leaders that are submitting the grant are paid
  • Projects developed by nonprofit organizations that are not led by community members

If the leaders submitting the application cannot be paid, does that mean the grant cannot be used to pay anyone?

The grant can be used to pay another expert in the community if it is necessary to make the project successful.

Can I submit a project if I am a community leader working with a nonprofit?

Projects coming directly from community members are preferred. If community leaders submitting the application are connected to a nonprofit organization, the project must be for an idea created by the leaders themselves.

How soon will I hear back about my Strengthening Neighborhoods Application?

You will hear about the decision on your application in 6 weeks. Please note that if an application is not complete, the 6 week time period will not begin until you have given us all the necessary information.

What does it mean to have a “complete” application?

A complete application means:

  • If you have already received a Strengthening Neighborhoods Grant, you have submitted your final report for that grant.
  • Fit with Strengthening Neighborhoods Goals
  • At least one box is checked that fits with your project goals and you have written an explanation about it.
  • The Denver Foundation Grant Focus Areas
  • At least one box is checked that fits with your project goals and you have written an explanation about it.
  • All questions in other sections are answered.

Are there any special extra things I need besides the application?

Yes, if you are applying for a project that will work with or in a school, you will need a letter from the school building leader supporting your project.
