Donor Perception Report

In 2018, The Denver Foundation asked our donors to respond to a perception survey conducted by The Center for Effective Philanthropy. Our goals were to better understand how our fundholders feel about their relationship with The Denver Foundation and the services we provide, and to hear suggestions for improving our services.

The Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP) is a nonprofit organization based in Boston and San Francisco whose mission is to provide data and create insight so philanthropic funders can better define, assess, and improve their effectiveness—and, as a result, their intended impact.

CEP’s surveys are unique because results are put in a comparative context, allowing foundations to benchmark their performance against others. Not only were we able to compare donor thoughts and feelings to the donors of the other community foundations across the country who have taken this survey, we were also able to create a custom cohort of 13 community foundations similar to The Denver Foundation in assets and grantmaking, which allowed us to do a deeper comparison and analysis.

Twenty-eight percent of those we asked to take the survey, either online or with a paper survey, responded, slightly above the average. Feedback from our fundholders is invaluable, and we appreciate everyone who took the time to complete a survey.

We’re pleased to report that The Denver Foundation received high marks for efficiency, services offered, transparency, and investment efficacy over the long-term. We will continue to use the important feedback to improve our services and strengthen our relationships.
