The Denver Foundation is honored to have received $50,000 from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation designated directly to support emergency food needs in Metro Denver.  Many front-line food programs are still coping with increased demand due to the continuing strain on the economy, particularly for those most in need.

“As we approach the coldest months of winter, many Denver area individuals and families will be forced to choose between heating their homes and putting food on the table,” said Jeff Hirota, Vice President of Programs for the Foundation.  “This generous grant from Bank of America will seed a new effort to raise money to meet emergency needs for food during this challenging mid-winter time period and will help raise awareness and encourage others to give, so we can replenish the shelves after holiday contributions have been given away.”

The Bank of America grant will be matched by $50,000 from other donors to the Critical Needs Fund, to make at least $100,000 available for emergency food.

“Now, more than ever, Bank of America is committed to supporting core human service needs such as hunger relief, housing and other basic services," said Robert Likos, Denver market president for Bank of America. "This is a crucial time for The Denver Foundation and the organizations they support, which are facing the opposing strains of increased demand and reduced supply. It is our hope this grant not only provides support but drives awareness that the need grows after the holidays as winter deepens."
