How does it work? Hope for Generations can accept gifts of cash, stock or other asset from any individual - you need not be a senior citizen to give.
All gifts are pooled and a board of advisors makes decisions on which organizations receive funding. Donors meet periodically to share ideas and to hear about the differences their contributions have made in the lives of needy children and seniors.
How did Hope for Generations start? In 2002, Jerry Conover and a group of his friends realized that the income they were receiving from their Social Security payments was more than they needed to put food on the table. They also recognized that children make up the largest segment of society living in poverty. They wondered if there was a way to pool their Social Security income and other charitable contributions to help these children. While Jerry knew that he could just make contributions on his own, he and his friends thought about others they knew who also wanted to help young children. Working with The Denver Foundation, they created Hope for Generations.
