Technical Assistance: What it is and how to secure it

Many nonprofits are interested in securing what is often called "Technical Assistance."  Technical Assistance (TA) can be broadly defined as any specialized skill or service that a nonprofit might need to fulfill its mission, and that isn't already available within the organization's existing staff or board of directors.

Most nonprofit organizations recognize there are times when they need such specialized help to fulfill their mission.  What is less clear is how to easily locate and manage consultants and technical assistance providers in a way to ensure your needs are met.
  • What type of help does the organization need?
  • How do I locate appropriate consultants to address the needs?
  • How do I establish effective business relationships with them?
If you are new to the idea of working with technical assistance providers, be sure to read About Technical Assistance.  If you are ready to find a consultant, check out the Consultant Database.  Lastly learn about ways The Denver Foundation offers support in the form of Technical Assistance Grants to nonprofit organizations.
