Feeding the Multitude

Arts Affinity Group

As Advocates for learning through the arts, The Denver Foundation’s Arts Affinity Group (AAG) provides grants to advance innovation and engagement in the Metro Denver arts community.

After four successful Art Tank events, AAG underwent a strategic review and is excited to announce a change to the funding model.

AAG will now use a Random Acts of Arts Philanthropy platform! AAG members are looking forward to identifying small nonprofits that use business unusual practices to bring life lessons through the arts. No RFP will be needed...we will find you!!

If you have questions about AAG grantmaking, please email aag@denverfoundation.org.

The AAG started in 2013 to bring arts philanthropists together to build connections with other inspired donors, learn together about the artists and organizations that use their creations to inspire, and to highlight Metro Denver’s thriving arts community. Quarterly luncheons expose members to the best and most innovative ideas, organizations and thought leaders throughout the city. The AAG members also pool resources to make grants to support and leverage innovation in the arts.

2018 Art Tank

The Denver Foundation’s Arts Affinity Group hosted a very successful Art Tank! Phamaly Theatre Company was the 1st Place and Audience Choice winner, taking home $30,000 in grant money for their project “Morph Masters: How Disability Made Famous Artists Awesome!” 2nd Place and a $13,000 grant went to Think360 Arts/Improv Alchemy for their project “Denver Talent Show Network.” Third place and a $10,000 grant went to The Trust for Public Land for their project “CREATE: New Art for New Freedom.” Holding the event in the June Swaner Gates Concert Hall at DU allowed us to open the event to the general public for the first time and we had over 300 people in the audience!

Since inception, the AAG has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars to dozens of nonprofit arts organizations that are changing Denver into the world class creative city it is. From 2014 - 2018, the group produced Colorado Art Tank, an interactive community event showcasing Denver’s best artists and creative projects. Finalists were selected through an open application process and invited to present their business unusual projects in front of a live audience and a panel of arts community leaders. Art Tank encouraged arts organization to conceive and present bold, innovative ideas to compete for funding awarded through live voting at the finale of the event.
